March Newsletter 2025
Teri Ann Cox
Executive Director of The Children’s Center
Dear Center Families,
Did you know that March is National Reading Month? First celebrated in 1994, it was designated in an effort to pay tribute to the world’s beloved children’s book author Dr. Suess, who was born on March 2, 1904. The month has now become an important opportunity to encourage reading every day and to foster with children a love of books. Daily reading is one of the best habits to develop as it strengthens mental muscles that boosts memory, improves comprehension and analytical abilities, and increases imagination. Knowing how to read opens up a world of possibilities for a person. And we all know, reading is fundamental to success in life.
In the month ahead, we will not only be reading lots of Dr. Suess books, but in our preschool program, the “Read It Once Again” curriculum book for March is one of my favorites: Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? Also, be on the lookout for our first Family Literacy Night of the year, which will be held on Tuesday, March 18th starting at 5:30 pm in the All-Stars room. Pizza, salad, and homemade cookies will be served, and our featured book is Wemberly Worried by Kevin Henkes. Please sign up outside of your child’s classroom and join us for a special reading, followed by a kid’s craft time and an optional parent/guardian “make & take” activity based on the “Positive Solutions for Families” workshop. As always, every child will receive a free copy of the featured book to add to their home library.
Let’s welcome spring (on March 20) and recognize the meaningful difference reading has on our children’s lives. In the words of Dr. Suess, “The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
With kind regards,
Teri Ann
