May Newsletter 2022

Teri Ann Cox
Executive Director of The Children’s Center

Dear Center Families,

May is the month that educators and child care providers are nationally recognized.

The first week in May is dedicated as Teacher Appreciation Week, and that first Tuesday is declared National Teacher Appreciation Day. It was Eleanor Roosevelt, back in 1953, who persuaded the 81st Congress to proclaim such recognition. The National Education Association describes the day as one “for honoring teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives.”

National Provider Appreciation Day, also known as National Child Care Provider Day, is celebrated annually on the Friday before Mother’s Day. This special day recognizes child care providers, teachers, and other educators of young children everywhere. Child care providers and educators equally deserve a huge “thank you” for their dedication, commitment, and compassion.

Provider Appreciation Day was started in 1996 by a group of volunteers in New Jersey who recognized the tireless efforts of the providers who care for children of working parents. Less than one-third of the children in America have a full-time stay-at-home parent. This “workforce behind the workforce” was essential long before the pandemic -- keeping our children safe, nurturing their curiosity, and preparing them for a lifetime of learning and growth.  Recognition currently includes state proclamations signed each year by many of the Governors.

Our amazing team at The Children’s Center will be recognized on Friday, May 6 by the board of directors with a morning gift bag filled with yummy treats, and each staff member will also receive a new zipped hoodie with our Center logo. Feel free to join me in personally thanking your child’s teachers, our office team, the coordinators, and Desira in the kitchen, who work tirelessly to make The Children’s Center the safe, kind, nurturing, and fun learning environment that it is. There is no other group of dedicated professionals I would rather work with!

Sincerely yours,

Teri Ann

P.S. And to all our moms and women who love with a mother’s heart, Happy Mother’s Day to you all on Sunday, May 8th!
